COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – Verizon users in North Naples are fed up after their cell service dramatically worsened over the past month.
For many of them, a temporary cell tower on the southwest corner of Immokalee Road and Collier Boulevard is to blame.
In the midst of a global pandemic, Verizon user, Christina Gonzalez said, “Unfortunately, phones are our lifeline right now.”
But for users living near that intersection, that lifeline seems like it’s off the hook.
“Literally like call fail after call fail,” she said.
Gonzalez said when she moved into her apartment six months ago, service was already shaky. But the past 30 days were when things took a complete nosedive.
“It was every call, every facetime…just dropping calls,” she said.
Gonzalez’s mom, Julia Sciabolino, is experiencing those issues on a smaller scale. The two share a family plan, and Sciabolino lives three miles west.
“On occasion there’s been a little fuzziness to the calls,” Sciabolino said.
A Verizon spokesperson said strong service is on the way. Up until 2019, the company provided service through a tower off Bellaire Bay Lane. But after the lot’s property owner asked the tower’s owner to relocate. They landed behind the Pebblebrooke Plaza with a tiny tower on wheels.
Within the next year, Verizon will move into a new, bigger, and better tower on the lot. Until then, Verizon encourages its users to enable “Wifi Calling” while they’re in the area.
