COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – A Lee County man was busted with over 160 grams of fentanyl during a traffic stop on Thursday.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said 31-year-old Anthony Benoit had enough fentanyl in his car to arrest him on drug trafficking charges.
Deputies conducted the traffic stop on a silver car at around 8:30 p.m., and Benoit didn’t completely stop at the stop sign near the intersection of Santa Barbara Boulevard and 19th Court Southwest. During the stop, a CCSO K-9 deputy alerted to narcotics in the car.
Deputies search the car and a bag of over 168 grams of fentanyl was found. Collier County deputies said this is considered trafficking weight.
Benoit was arrested for trafficking fentanyl four grams or more as well as possession of narcotic equipment. The US Drug Enforcement Administration describes fentanyl as a synthetic opioid that is 80 to 100 times stronger than morphine. Two milligrams of fentanyl can kill a person.
