CAPE CORAL, Fla. – A Cape Coral woman woke up to authorities knocking at her door saying a hit-and-run driver destroyed her property.
Authorities said the hit-and-run crash happened Monday, Aug. 30 around 5 a.m.
Yanely Carrazana walked out and saw her minivan had a crushed back end and had moved from her driveway to the middle of her yard.
“My car was on the other side of the grass, but my mailbox was on the floor,” said Carrazanna.
Her mailbox and car were damaged. Her next-door neighbor also had her more than 300-pound concrete mailbox uprooted from the ground. Authorities said the driver ran away from the scene on foot after the crash.
“We found out later it was a 16-year-old, and we don’t know where he was going,” said neighbor Mark Nielson.
Neighbors said the teen was driving his grandfather’s Mercedes when he left his path of destruction. Carrazana said the teen and his parents apologized and offered to help her replace damaged items.
“I was hoping they would come back someday,” said Carrazana.
