COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — A 74-year-old Collier County woman was bit in the leg by a 6-foot gator while gardening on Thursday morning, officials said.
Rescue crews with the Greater Naples Fire Department rushed to the scene in the Verona Walk community around 8:30 a.m. and took the injured woman to Physicians Regional Hospital for treatment.

The woman was near a residential canal when she got bit and used a shovel to scare the gator away, rescue crews said.
Information about the condition of the gator or its whereabouts is not known.
