FORT MYERS, Fla.– Amazon opened a new “sort center” in Fort Myers just west of Interstate 75 near Alico Road on Monday.
The new “sort facility” is where packages will come in from other Amazon hubs will be organized and dispatched to fulfillment centers before final delivery.
“It really means three things: jobs, jobs, and jobs,” Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson said. “We are talking about above minimum wage jobs. That’s good for this area.”
The new facility is expected to create more than 200 full and part-time jobs, which the company is still hiring for. For more information on the positions, click HERE.
“It indicates that our consumers and our local residents have become huge consumers of this company,” District 2 County Commissioner, Cecil Pendergrass, said. “They saw the need, and they brought it here to get closer to the consumers.”
The new sort center is Amazon’s latest venture into Southwest Florida. In June, Amazon opened a distribution center in Naples.

“People starting to realize that Southwest Florida is on the map, and we’re open for business,” Mayor Anderson said.
