CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Cape Coral city leaders held a town hall to discuss the Yacht Club Community Park Construction Project on Monday night.
Cape Coral Mayor John Gunter said the project is delayed because they are waiting to get the permits they need from the Army Corps of Engineers and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
“Basically we are just waiting for their response it could be 30 days or it could be 120 days,” said Mayor Gunter.
Mayor Gunter said once they get those permits, they still need to get permits locally. Once all of that is finished, they will give residents a 60-day notice that the project is set to begin.
“If everything goes as planned we are looking at an 18-24 month process for all the construction,” said Mayor Gunter.
Some residents said they are nervous about the project’s uncertain timeline.
“Here we are worried they are going to close this whole beautiful facility and nothing is going to happen in a good time frame,” said Robin Ricco, who lives in Cape Coral.
City leaders said the purpose of the town hall was to discuss the delay of the project and hear residents’ thoughts and concerns regarding the project.
