CAPE CORAL, Fla. – A Cape Coral man lost little more than $626,000 dollars in an online scam.
According to the police report, the victim was contacted through Facebook Messenger about investing in “NMI LTD.”
He was then told to create a Whatsapp account to talk to their rep.
The victim started sending money through Coinbase to the company last October, just this week he reported the fraud.
According to the report, he said the website looked legit, but the FBI says that’s one way scammers can trick you.
If you’re looking to invest:
- Don’t give cash upfront for a larger return later.
- Do your own research.
- Never rush an investment opportunity.
- Remember there is no such thing as a guaranteed return.
The victim did hire an attorney to track down where the money went.
