CLEWISTON, Fla. — A Clewiston principal’s educational certificate has been suspended after she was caught on video paddling a student.
Video footage captured Melissa Carter paddling an elementary school student. The incident happened in May 2021 at Central Elementary School.
A Florida judge determined Carter violated state statues. Corporal punishment is also banned in Hendry County.
As a result, Carter’s educator certificate is suspended for 3 months, which will be served in a period when school is not in session. She was also handed a 2-year probation and has to take anger management counseling.
