DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. — A 79-year-old man from Maryland died after crashing into a semi-truck along State Road 70 and Wuthrich Avenue on July 21.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a semi-truck, driven by a 31-year-old man from Arcadia, was traveling along eastbound State Road 70 and approaching Wuthrich Avenue. The 79-year-old man was approaching the truck.
As the Maryland man attempted to pass the semi-truck, the truck started to turn left toward Wuthrich Avenue and collided with motorcycle.
The crash caused the man to fall from his bike. He was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The Arcadia man suffered no injuries, according to the report.
The man from Maryland was pronounced dead Wednesday, August 3 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
FHP said the crash remains an active investigation.
