FORT MYERS, Fla. — Authorities are still searching for the person who shot and killed 13-year-old Desmond Jones in Fort Myers over a decade ago.
April 27 marks 12 years since Desmond was found gunned down in a driveway on Lillie Street, east of the IMAG History & Science Center near Downtown Fort Myers.
The Fort Myers Police Department (FMPD) responded to a report of gunshots and a young man being chased down the road around 3:30 a.m. that morning. The police were dispatched to the Dunbar-Jupiter Hammon Public Library.
When police found Desmond a block away, authorities said he had “a large amount of blood around his head.” He was pronounced dead on the scene.
“The victim was with several friends earlier in the evening when an argument broke out between two people in the group,” according to the FMPD homicide database. “As the victim was walking home with a friend he was confronted by another subject who shot him in the yard of 1929 Lillie Street.”
SWFL Crime Stoppers is asking for help in searching for Desmond’s killer. Authorities ask that anyone with information call 1-800-780-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online. Tips can be made anonymously.
