During her three years playing for FGCU Women’s Basketball, TK Morehouse put together one of the best resumes in program history.
The guard was a three-time All-ASUN First Team selection, and during her fifth year, she was named an All-American Honorable Mention and the ASUN Player of the Year.
“Just simply one of the best to ever put on an FGCU Women’s Basketball uniform,” FGCU Head Coach Karl Smesko said.
Morehouse led FGCU to its tenth ASUN Tournament title and an NCAA Tournament win six months ago. A couple of weeks after that, she attempted to start her professional career by declaring for the WNBA draft. However, the big day came, and her name wasn’t called.
“To me, I feel like I proved a lot and did a lot,” Morehouse said. “So, I was kind of surprised that I didn’t get a shot.”
That disappointment wasn’t the end of her basketball career, though. Morehouse is back on the court. It may not be the WNBA, but TK is living out her dream of playing professional basketball in Greece.
“It’s just another hill to get over to prove myself and continue to play the game that I love,” Morehouse said.
Morehouse had offers from teams in Germany, Italy, Sweden, and Switzerland, but she ultimately decided to sign with Proteas Voulas in Athens, Greece. She said the team is the best fit for her, and the coach even looks up to the way FGCU plays.
“We have a system that is very similar to overseas basketball right now,” Smesko said.
The one thing that is different is Morehouse is allowed to shoot midrange shots now. In Smesko’s “raining threes” system, he encourages his players to only take three-pointers and layups. In Greece, Morehouse is still taking those shots but is also adding the midrange back into her repertoire.
Morehouse is already living in Greece, practicing with her new team and adjusting to her new world.
“It’s kind of cool,” she said. “Culturally, everything is different.”
Morehouse knows a couple of Americans who play on different teams in her league, which is helping with the adjustment. Her games start on October 7, which will be the first step in what she is hoping is a long professional career.
“I know she’s motivated, and she’s willing to work for it,” Smesko said. “So I think the sky is the limit for her.”
“I just want to get to the highest level of basketball as I can and just keep going,” Morehouse added.
