LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Lee Health is pending a deal with realtors to buy nearly 23 acres of land in Cape Coral.
“It is too early to announce definitive plans for the land, but at this time we anticipate building a facility similar to Lee Health Coconut Point, with a combination of physician offices, diagnostic testing, and other health care services,” said Ben Spence, chief financial and business services officer for Lee Health.
Once the $3.7 million deal is sealed, Lee Health officials said the new medical facility will be located on the 2800 block of Pine Island Road and will resemble its facilities in Coconut Point in Bonita Springs.
Cape Coral city manager Rob Hernandez said this is part of the city’s economic development strategy, which includes bringing businesses to the Cape so that residents do not have to travel far for services or to work at their facilities.
“I think the best thing is…we don’t have to travel as far for medical care,” said Della Griffin.
Some West Cape residents said they are excited about the expansion.
“Our Coconut Point location has transformed the delivery of health services for residents of South Lee County, and we project that this location will do the same for Cape Coral,” Spence said. “Currently, Lee Health Coconut Point is meeting 90+ percent of the healthcare needs in the Estero-Bonita Springs area, which is also our goal for the Pine Island location. We will provide more details as we finalize plans to expand access to health care services in Cape Coral.”
