FORT MYERS, Fla. – Thomas Sharkey, husband of Alexis Sharkey (Robinault) who was killed nearly a year ago, was found dead of an ‘apparent suicide’ in Fort Myers just after 1 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
US Marshals confirmed Thomas was wanted in connection to Alexis’s death before he was found dead in his home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound early Wednesday morning.
Houston authorities issued a warrant for Thomas whose body was found at his daughter’s home in South Fort Myers.
His wife was a 26-year-old Instagram influencer with more than 30,000 followers. She was found dead on a Houston interstate on November 27, 2020, police said.
The night of Alexis Sharkey’s death, she was home throughout the day at her apartment. Thomas came home that evening around 6:40 PM and things began from there.
Robinault’s body was found on a highway in northwest Houston on November 28.
There’s been a history of domestic violence between the two and the relationship was ending with a pending divorce, according to authorities. Thomas was interested in reconciling the relationship, Alexis was not.
The 26-year-old died of strangulation and the manner of death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner. Her husband is the only person who had the means and motive to commit the murder. Authorities stated that there is clear evidence that Mr. Sharkey acted alone.
Thomas Sharkey had not been truthful about the key issues and statements he made to police. Sharkey was being evasive to authorities and left the state within the first two weeks of the investigation. Detectives made effort to try and meet with him to collect a DNA sample from him in early August of this year which Sharkey agreed to. He was living in Georgia at the time and when detectives went to Georgia, he was a no-show, made no contact, and came up with a bizarre story later on of why he essentially disappeared.
Enough evidence allowed police to get an arrest warrant and charge him with her murder. An arrest warrant was obtained for Thomas Sharkey on September 29, 2021.
Sharkey was staying with a relative in Fort Myers. When he learned that U.S. Marshals came to arrest him, he ran upstairs and took his own life using a gun.
Lee County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the death investigation of Mr. Sharkey.
No one else is suspected of any involvement in the case, no one else is under investigation.
The family of Mr. Sharkey did not know he was wanted, neither did Sharkey know his own self.
Robinault went by the name “Alexis Sharkey” on Instagram.
