PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — A Port Charlotte man was sentenced to 35 years in prison Thursday after he was found guilty on multiple charges connected to a 2019 shooting in a Charlotte County neighborhood.
Duane Roderick Lynch, 38, was accused of shooting a man and a house after recklessly driving down a residential street where children and adults were playing basketball, The State Attorney’s Office said.
When the adults yelled at him to slow down, he parked his truck and went to confront them.
He grabbed a gun out of his waistband and waved it around, according to prosecutors. Lynch drove away and started shooting out of his window. One man was shot in the leg and one nearby house was shot more than 10 times before Lynch drove away.
Lynch was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, shooting at/within or into a dwelling, and possession of a firearm, ammunition of a concealed weapon by a convicted felon.
The 38-year-old was also ordered to have no contact with the victims or any witnesses. He will also have to pay fines to the Domestic Violence Trust Fund.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Caitlin Sorenson and Assistant State Attorney Jennifer Garczewski.
