CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — Charlotte County Animal Control said that eleven animals were removed from All Creatures Safe Haven, a rescue facility in Punta Gorda.
Among the animals were dogs, cats, a horse, and pigs. Now, they are preparing the animals for adoption.
Nicole O’Brien said she wanted to give animals a peaceful ending, but a big mess is what they found when they showed up to the home facility.
She said it’s meant for senior and hospice case animals.
“That’s how it’s been since it opened back in 2016,” said O’Brien.
On April 19, animal control took away her animals. Buddy the dog was in the worst condition.
Brian Jones with Charlotte County Animal Control said some of the animals were in relatively good health, but all of them showed signs of neglect.
O’Brien said she took good care of the animals for years, and that it only became a struggle for her lately.
“It doesn’t justify the condition in which we found the animal,” said Jones.
Jones said this is an animal cruelty case but they have not filed any charges against O’Brien.
