CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Cape Coral Police (CCPD) responded to a Wawa shooting at Santa Barbara Blvd and Veterans Pkwy Sunday morning.
According to CCPD officer Brandon Sancho, everyone fled the scene after multiple shots were fired near the Wawa gas station.
Officials later confirmed that two men were shooting at each other at the Wawa on Santa Barbra Blvd around 11:45 a.m.
Dwayne McCarty said he was standing in his front yard when he thought he heard fireworks. It turned out to be gunfire instead.
“I saw a guy from the dumpsters behind the WAWA shooting over by somebody at ASPEN dental,” said McCarty.
McCarty said the man on foot was wearing a long, white shirt while directing his bullets to a silver Chevy with two men inside the car. Dwayne said the man and car exchanged somewhere around 15 shots before the silver car sped away down a side street.
“My neighbor said he saw it cut through a vacant lot because it almost ran him off the road,” said McCarty.
McCarty added that after the car pulled away, the man behind the dumpster began collecting shell casings he fired off. Witnesses say he briefly hid behind the WAWA before running away.
Police said there are no known victims at this time.
CCPD is investigating this incident. If you have any information regarding the suspects in this case, call them at 239-574-3223.
