SANIBEL, Fla. — The Clinic for Rehabilitation of Wildlife provided care to an armadillo with multiple health issues.
A Nine-banded armadillo was admitted from Fort Myers last Friday.
The armadillo was dehydrated, malnourished and full of ticks. More than 20 ticks were removed from the quiet animal.
Overgrown nails, healed cuts and sunken eyes were noted by veterinarians.
Since armadillos are prone to infections, hospital staff from CROW administered supportive fluids, iron and antibiotics.
During the weekend, the young armadillo was closely monitored in the critical care unit and will continue under supportive care as the staff makes the next treatment decisions.
