UPDATE: FORT MYERS, Fla. — Fort Myers Police investigators have determined speed was a factor in the fatal crash on Top Golf Way.
Five teens died after their vehicle crashed into a pond just off the roadway overnight Monday.
The Fort Myers Police Department (FMPD) said this remains an active investigation.

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Five teens died in an overnight car crash on Top Golf Way in Fort Myers.
According to police, all the victims are between 18 and 19 years old. The car was removed from a lake along the roadway.
Fort Myers Police Department is still investigating what caused the crash. Police were at the scene for multiple hours.
The crash happened between the Lotus Village apartment complex and Top Golf’s parking lot. Roads are currently blocked.
All the family members of the victims have been notified, according to police.
A memorial grows outside Texas Roadhouse as the community mourns the loss of the teens. Four of the teens worked at the Fort Myers Texas Roadhouse.
An unidentified person gave NBC2 a statement while visiting the scene.

The Fort Myers Police Department is searching for answers regarding what led up to or followed the crash. One tool they’re using is a measuring wheel to follow the tire tracks as they leave Top Golf Way and travel onto the sidewalk.
Fort Myers Police has yet to uncover exactly when the car drove off the road and where the friends were heading.
FMPD said any information may be submitted through its public safety app Atlas One or through SWFL Crime Stoppers.
