CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A man walked into a Cape Coral auto shop and stole the whole cash register on Monday afternoon.
Security cameras captured the man walking behind the front counter of the Muffler Man on Del Prado Boulevard around 3:05 p.m. The man grabbed the cash register and walked away with it.
Del Prado Boulevard is a busy place for such a brazen crime right smack in the middle of the afternoon.
However, that didn’t matter too much to the man who didn’t try to hide from security cameras.
“I was in the back working on a car,” said Alan Lowell, a technician at Muffler Man. “I came up here to get a drink, my manager was with me, he noticed that our cash box was gone. First, he thought it was a prank from me.”
There are no jokes, no gags and no giggles. Only the workers watching the security cameras to find the suspect walking behind the front counter and grabbing the cash register.
“He just kind of peaked around real quick,” Lowell said. “Pushed this chair out the way, reached under and took the box.”
The bold crime is stunning to Lowell. However, what really blows his mind is the guy not having a care in the world.
“It used to be just at night a lot of crime would happen. Now they do it in the day. They don’t care. They don’t even wear a mask. He might as well just smile for the camera. Might as well just hit a pose and say ‘Hey! I’m taking your box.’”
He took the box and the $500 inside, but that’s not all.
“There was an SD card in there,” Lowell said.
On that card are business files, ones that they value more than the money.
Cape Coral Police came and lifted prints off of everything the suspect touched, like this water fountain. Now they’re on the hunt for the man who’s driving a baby blue Jaguar.
“People suck nowadays, you know? They don’t give a s***,” said Lowell. “A normal person just don’t go into someone’s business and steal. You’re an a******, junkie, loser.”
With photos like this, it’s only a matter of time before someone rats on the man. If you ask Lowell, he thinks the suspect has a better chance if the police find him first.
“A good ole slap. That’s about as far as that’s going to go.”
