FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — Construction is now underway inside Fort Myers Beach Elementary School, and our crews got an even closer look inside.
“It’s flashbacks, but it’s also hope and progress that we’re going to recover and that we’ll be back on campus and our community will be back together learning,” described Principal Traci Kohler, who said each bit of progress brings her joy.
“It’s exciting to see the ductwork installed, to see some potential walls going up, it’s really exciting to see the forward moving progress,” added Kohler.
District leaders said it’s been a journey just to get construction started at Fort Myers Beach Elementary.

Fredrick Ross, the executive director of operations for the Lee County School District, said, “Getting the outer buildings demolished to begin this permanent construction, so there’s been a lot of work that’s been going on behind the scenes before this.”
Now all that hard work is paying off as construction crews put the school back together, piece by piece.
Parents said it feels like they’re one step closer to sending their kids back to school there.
“I’m so excited; I’ve been told they’re working with the historical society to get the correct type of wood on the floor, the correct paint on the walls,” said Jenny Tardiffparadiso, who went to Fort Myers Beach Elementary School and now her daughter is a student there too.
