CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A former Lee County deputy was arrested in New York on a warrant out of Cape Coral. Paul Trombley is accused of taking thousands of dollars from customers at a company he once worked for.
Victims said Trombley was a salesman at MTS Construction in Cape Coral. He offered them deals and services but never provided them.
Nick Howell knew Trombley prior to doing business with him; he says he initially gave him $5,000 for Ian repairs on his roof.
“A week later, he was like, ‘Oh, can I get the other $5,000 for the next payment?’ but I knew him, so I didn’t think anything of it, so I ended up just giving him the whole payment for the roof,” said Howell.
Howell says from that point on, he had a gut feeling something was off.
“I reached out to the owner saying this is unprofessional,” said Howell. “They were like, ‘What are you talking about? We don’t have anything about you under contract or anything.’”
Howell said MTS Construction did make the situation right, and they fixed his roof.
Trombley faces grand theft, fraud, and unlicensed contracting charges. His arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 26.
