COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – We’ve already seen a lot of new developments in Collier County and now the commissioners are looking at building a Great Wolf Lodge Resort off Collier and I-75.
The resort would have an indoor waterpark with slides, splash pads, pools, and a lazy river with more than 500 hotel rooms.
Mother of two Jolee Farr said Naples needs more family-friendly places and a palace she would love to take her kids.
“I think it would just be a great opportunity for the community, for the children and families to go and have a great day and weekend,” Farr said.
Collier County resident Denis Cherrier said he is open to the idea of it coming to Naples, however, he doesn’t know if it will fit in.
“I have a little question about whether a Great Wolf Lodge Model fits in with southern Florida, SWFL look, and feel,” Cherrier said. “We have a tiki environment with a lodge cabin construction so I am not sure if that makes a lot of sense.”
The resort would be built right next to the new Paradise Sports Complex, an area which has seen a lot of development.
“I think just about any development is usually good development down here,” Cherrier said.
However, not everyone agrees with Cherrier’s idea of development, including District 1 County Commissioner Rick LoCastro.
“I am 100 percent against development, I am only for improvement and need,” LoCastro said. “We have developed enough things around here that have proven to be huge mistakes, we got to do a deeper dive to see if this is something that’s going to add an improvement to an area.”
The $234 million project is bound to attract families but LoCastro said he is not hopping down the slide just yet.
“The old saying if you build it they will come is nieve. We have built plenty of things and they haven’t come, just drive down US-41 and look at all the out-of-business strip malls,” LoCastro said.
Right now no deal has been sealed.
